After much research I finally got the device attached to my account.

As I'd mentioned it had a half broken screen. The top half worked as it should, the bottom half was stuck on the last image that was on the device before it broke. As I didn't know the serial of the device and the box had long since been lost I didn't really have much options.

I found a screen shot of the keyboard online and used it to maneuver my way around and type my email etc in. Problem was I couldn't tell where yes, no etc was. So I started doing screen shots of my kindle (keyboard+menu for a few seconds). That worked out perfectly. True I had to connect it to my computer and start over from scratch every screen shot but after a bit I started to get it figured out. It helped that I could see half the screen... if I was working completely blind I'd probably still be trying stuff.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this solution helps someone else out too.
