That doesn't answer your original question though unless your experience with the likes of the above applications is different. If so, I can only say that I am doing something clever (but don't ask me what it is that I am doing ).
@AnotherCat - thanks for the feedback, see attachment to see what I get when I copy pasta from the calibre reader to MS Word 2007.

I'm not running any clipboard extenders (because I've disabled it)

Notepad++ is one program I use that does ignore the HTML, I know this because I use it as the place to offload the HTML bloat before copying into Blogger & Word Press comments or Word documents. I just discovered that Live Writer also ignores the HTML.

This is not a new problem, I've had it since I installed Calibre ~18 months ago, so why has it taken me this long to complain. Well, I'm a fault tolerant person, but yesterday I ran into the issue several times, so it was a case of... Enough already!

But, what does calibre do that the other HTML processors don't do. or what do they do that calibre doesn't do?

Which layout engine does Calibre use to render the EPUBs? I don't get this with Gecko(Firefox), Webkit(Chrome) or Trident (IE) browsers.

Often wondered if this a case of "Like this for everyone or just me?"
