No problem, most of a page-curl transitions for pdf's/comics/epubs allow us to freeze transition at every point, just like with real paper.
So, as long as you hold your finger on the screen, part of previous page will be visible, and if it is not completely visible then just swipe back to unfold that curled part like with real paper.
I also read a lot on iPad.
Indoors it is about 90 % time iPad (with anti-glare protector and brightness under 33 % in the dark), 10 % time e-ink.
Outdoors it is 75 % time e-ink, 25 % iPad (with anti-glare protector, homemade sunshade if needed, and brightness under 70 % in the sun).
