If you connect the reader to your PC and look in the file ".kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf" you will see some settings for weight and sharpness similar to these (If you haven't changed from the default then they will not be there).

If you delete the lines for weight and sharpness, the defaults for the current firmware should be used (you might need to turn your reader off and on again to get the changes in the file to show).

The problem is that the defaults have probably changed sine the last firmware, this will only reset it to the default for the current firmware.

Edit: Ignore this if the pinhole reset works :-)
