Terry Brooks released two short stories for $0.99 recently; they are 35 and 42 pages, when counting 2400 characters as a page. I think that's a nice length for a short story. I seem to remember that a word had an average of 6 letters, so that would be 400 words a page, or about 14-16.500 words for such a story.

A story of 2500 words or even shorter is silly, IMHO. That would come down to around 6.5 paperback pages. That's the length of a high school writing assignment. At least, it would be in the Netherlands.
