You're missing nothing since the contests are usually country specific. In France, for instance, there is no contest, no codes and no birthday vouchers. This is a missed thing in my opinion since the fixed price law applies only to French publishers' lists, proof being that I'm using codes found here for English books without any trouble.
But that's how it is.
