As the article from Wire cited earlier they have to nail the UI and make it easy to use. I agree that with the right APIs written they can blend the FireHD with most any control device and easily be able to smoothly interface with most all of the existing apps in their store.
I stayed away from the Kindle and Apple tablets because of how locked down they are, but I might make an exception in this case.
