Actually, not true. You can click cancel and it won't connect to your computer (ie you can't add files, etc), BUT it WILL charge!!! If you are reading in front of your computer or just want to play with it while it's charging and it's most convenient to charge with your computer, you can just click cancel and keep using your Kobo as it charges.
When doing it this way, you won't have a blank screen with "connected & charging", ...it should show a small icon on the battery indicating it's charging though....
