You need to keep pushing it till it stops; at this point the card will be nearly flush with the body of ereader. Using a finger nail or finding someone with dainty little hands helps. If the card wasn't properly ejected or inserted it can screw up the file system, it will appear to be completely functional when connected to your computer, yet the reader will not be able to read/write. Try reformatting the card using the tool from this site: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/

Also try inserting the card when your reader is turned off, it reduces the likelihood of experiencing format/corruption problems. One final thing, if you are using an SD to microSD card adaptor to connect the card to your computer, try another one.

If you still can’t get the card to mechanically engage then it’s possible that the card holder in the reader is defective, you would have to contact kobo or go to your store and get a replacement.
