But... you can sideload them as liberated epubs.
They don't need to be kepubs to work on any Kobo reader, Aura included. They all handle epub (with or without Adobe drm).
And once you have the plugin installed, if you really want to have kepubs instead of epubs, it's no more complicated than liberating your ebooks.
