The reason for my choice of a Kobo when I was updating my ereader was that it used epub which was supported by almost every ebook store I looked at and was supported by the local libaries. At that time, quite a few ebook stores did not support AZW. I also found the tools to allow me to play with epubs were superior to the tools for any of the Amazon formats -- compare Sigil to MobiPocket as an example.
