IMO, defragmenting doesn't make a lot of sense -- though it probably won't hurt either. (see 3 posts down)

In terms of "how much free space is best": I don't understand the question The entire purpose of storage devices is to store data. You don't gain anything by keeping a disk empty. It won't magically be faster or anything -- you'll just have less meaningful data on it.

120 MB is still a lot of space if all that you want to store is a couple of books.
