It may just be the differences in location and culture, because around this area (Washington DC), you see it all the time. Not as heavily as you'll see it on American TV, of course, and PC is making the appropriate venues harder and harder to find. But I see it regularly... and I don't even hang out in the "cool" places anymore, as I'm considered too old for 'em!

(And for the record: I've known lots of girls over the years, and none of 'em ever tried to pick me up, either.)
