Not sure if there is any actual research on E-INK FRONTLIT screens ease on eye. Front mulitple different threads on different readers on Mobileread, I think the huge, overwhelming sentiment is that once they've had it, very few would willing go back to a non-frontlit screen. There are always exceptions to the rule. Since you have a PW and a Kobo Mini, chose whichever works best for you (light or no light).
