Update:
Bookeen sent me back the same device. It showed a choppy performance from the first startup and after a few weeks it broke down again, the same problem as before. Now, after a few months of what I can only describe as "totally retarded communication" , they finally refunded my money.
To describe some of the communication: Immediately after i got it back, i rapported the problem and got following reply: '' your device has been fully tested and works correct''. So i sent them back:"i told you two times that the problems start when the battery is at 50 %, i sent it fully charged and i got it back fully charged, so how can you guarantee me that you tested it 100%?". Reply from bookeen: '' sir, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any problems with the Odyssey''......
So after i contacted them 2 times about a problem, they say: ''do not hesitate to contact us if there's a problem''. Sorry, but that's some retarded BS.
So to find out what their ''complete checkup'' actually means, i started fiddling with my bricked device. I discovered that if you press the L + R button and then simultaneously press the Power-button, you restart the device in ''service mode''. Here you can test every different segment, as well as do a reboot/power down. My device passed all tests, and i can reboot it as much as i like using service mode and sometimes even by holding the Power-button, but it freezes a few seconds after startup. Sometimes i'm fast enough to reinitialise, but when it starts up again it freezes on the ''language setting'' screen. One time i could even open a book and scroll through the pages, but when i stopped doing this for 3 seconds, who could have guessed, it froze again.
I am very disappointed in the overall quality of ereaders. It might be possible that i swapped the sd card when it was in sleep mode (on the home screen, not in an open book) instead of fully powered off, but should that result in a bricked device?? That stuff should be fixed with a reboot or a reinitialisation. Such total crap software.... it's like a combination of gambling and praying when you buy an ereader.and it's not like they are cheap, even a piece of rubber for a cover costs you 30 euros...
If anybody has some further tips on how i can reset or reflash this thing or something, let me know.
