One of the Stainless Steel Rat stories might have gotten some of my money. Bill is apparently an anti-war pieces, and that seems to be a part of the appeal to the producer. Unfortunately, whatever anti-war message in it was so buried in 12 year old humor than I never even noticed it, before invoking The Eight Deadly Words.
Bill the Galactic Hero is one of, best I can remember, three books I've ever put down with no intention of ever finishing, and is the reason I didn't read Discworld books for a couple of decades (because they were recommended to me by the same guy who recommended Bill - he's one of my best friends, and I love him dearly, but he has the sense of humore of a demented 12 year old on a sugar rush, so his recommendations for "funny" books is really more an an anti-recommendation to me).
