Since Kobo has become strangely silent on this issue, I decided a little surgery was in order. I removed the inner pocket material that was hanging on the screen, in the hope that this will mitigate the problem.
I can't say that I'm happy to have to resort to this, and I can't say that I'm happy with the lack of comment from Kobo. Sad too, to see, based on Peakcrew's post, that people are actually accepting this as normal hardware behaviour for an eInk reader.
