Thank you for the reply. About release rates, it seems both Amazon and Kobo release about one per month. Sources: Kobo firmware releases, Paperwhite firmware 5.3.0 and 5.3.1
About reliability, it's true there was many problems but it seems now firmwares work (source).
Can you confirm?
