You don't say whether you are plugging the unit directly into your PC or into an external hub. If you are plugging into an external hub you might want to replace your hub with one that has its own power supply. They run about $20 to $30 and have a little transformer that plugs into the hub to power it, as opposed to the hub getting its power from the PC. I would suspect this will cure your problem.
