@pilotbob: there have been lawsuits. I have not been a part of them. Google has also been sued for indiscriminately scanning books... they scaled back their operation, but big business has won the day, for now.

@acidzebra: You are being vague in your terms. The "internet" and "the web" are not one and the same. Google doesn't own any part of "the internet" (well, except for their servers, but you know what I mean, I hope), nor do they own any part of any web site I've created, though they operate as if they do. Linking to other sites, or other sites linking to me, doesn't confer any rights to Google. I'm not sure where you're trying to go with your counterarguments, as they don't seem to address the points I've made.

Nor does the fact that if you ask them to, they'll remove your stuff from the cache, make things right. They have no right to cache my content IN THE FIRST PLACE. A polite thief who'll return your stuff "if you ask" is still a thief. I'll also note that these removal tools were only put in place after complaints and at least one lawsuit.
