I bought this back in 2007 when it was published by Baen as part of the June 2007 webscription.

It's an excellent SF story, and an absolute bargain at $0.99.
Thank you for pointing this out! I picked it up, finished the book I was reading, and thought I'd read the first few paragraphs to see what it's like. It immediately leap frogged to the top of my list and I'm going to be up late tonight.
