I prefer my 1st gen over my kindle e-ink reader for reading except by the pool. The bigger, back lit screen is easy on my eyes in most conditions and images in the books I read (mostly technical) display better. I can only imagine that another 2" of screen would make things better. I am concerned about the weight, but not much. If I were you, I'd visit Staples or Best Buy and do some e-reading to see how it suits you.
