What kind of crash did you have that your ebook files couldn't be recovered? As long
as the HD or SSD is functional they should be retrievable.

And it does sound like this should be in the calibre forum. If the laptop is running the
regular Win 8, wouldn't you be using the regular calibre? I don't know about for RT,
and that would be for ARM based device, as I understand it.
