Actually, what I was saying is that for short random writes class 2 cards can be 50-100 times faster than a class 4 or 10 card. Somewhat counter-intuitive, huh?
The newer cards with higher speed ratings were designed to transfer larger amounts of data in larger structures, blocks, sectors etc., consequently when trying to write smaller amounts of data at randomized locations rather than linear areas they are slower because they have to address and write to much larger blocks or areas than are actually being changed.
I think this, perhaps more than cost, was why the lower class cards are more popular in Android/Linux devices when used for internal storage/boot disk applications.
