There seems to be a huge range of speeds between cards of the same class. For example in this test http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...e,3011-12.html some class 4 cards were 20 times faster than other class 4 cards at small random access operations. The class 2/4 sandisk cards (which the Kobos come with) seem to do fairly well in these tests, so your new card might just be slower.

I replaced my Glo's original 2GB card with a 8GB class 4 sandisk card and didn't notice any difference in speed afterwards.
