Thank you for the answers.
This is definitively a hardware issue, as I do have the same problem with the three OS (Ubuntu, openSUSE and Windows). And it has something to do with the usb system of the computer.
Is this problem linked to the Kindle? I really don't know. But this hardware issue appeared just after I plugged the Kindle Touch where I installed usbnetwork (and not when I plugged the K3 Kindle without usbnetworking). And it happened twice.
Looking at the words "usb ports" and "usbnetwork", I made the assumption that some links could be existing explaining the problem.
Right now I can't use the mouse using a usb port or a IR mouse.
But, what is more worrysome is that the computer also refuses to boot, stopping at the very beginning with a line about usb controller or something like that. It does not accept to boot on a live CD (and the setting of the BIOS is right).
After many attempts, being blocked on the "ASUS screen" and shutting down the computer with the power button, I was able to boot using a external HD on a usb port. The external HD didn't have a OS, but the fact to plug it on the usb port unblocks the usb problem and allowed the booting after some time. The mouse is still not seen but at least, I can use the computer. And I think to remember that the first time I had that problem, I used the same trick, but with a Kindle instead of the external HD.
Last time, the problem disappeared by itself after a few days and I was able to use the mouse, till I upload a book on the Kindle. So I guess, I will wait those few days, hoping for the same resolution.
Thank you for reading that, and I know that HW problem is not what you are looking at right now
By the way, Ixtab, I'm very grateful for what you are offering us here.
