Adding books and the title/author

In Calibre, in the preferences for Adding Books, I have checkmarked Read metadata from file contents rather than file name. This works well for most formats except for pdf where I can often get a lot of rubbish added to the book title. Is there a way to set something up in Calibre that will allow all other formats to be read from the metadata but have pdfs read from file name?

Another question and I doubt this can be fixed but you never know, so I'll ask anyway. Occasionally the author's name is placed where the title of the book is and the book title is where the author's name should be. While this is easy to fix it's often difficult to find when a large number of books are added to the library. Is there any way to prevent that from happening or is it because I have checked the Read metadata from file contents, or perhaps something that just happens.
