To add to #6 while Mr Root printed the first accurate report describing the events at Kitty Hawk in Gleanings in Bee Culture a few months later, a very inaccurate story was printed 2 months earlier in the Virginia-Pilot. I believe the telegraph operator who transmitted the brothers message to their father notified the local paper and they printed the story. Neither person witnessed the brothers flight at KH. Their father contacted the newspaper in Dayton but they wouldn't print it as they felt it was insignificant.
