My opinion is that it's a *good thing* the August vacation time in France is now over. You need to send it back and get it replaced.
However, yes, getting some sort of hard case will *help* to protect the Cybook. Still, be forewarned that at least two Cybooks/EB-100s (made by Netronix, which makes the Cybook hardware) have failed (cracked screen, broken controller connection) whilst being held, gently, in the users' hands.
