Sassoon, Siegfried: Picture-Show. v1 7 March 2013

Picture-Show was privately printed in July 1919. It included 34 poems written between early 1918 and early 1919. Fewer than half the poems dealt directly with the War but, as his biographer observed, they were all 'written very much in its shadow.' The book was not published in England, and the first American edition, containing an additional seven poems, did not appear until the following year. From then on, except for poetry collections re-publishing his earlier work, he dealt with his war experience through novels and autobiography. He turned to other subjects in his poetry.
