Another way is to use a script that you put in a handy place (I have it in my Finder window toolbars). I actually have two, one that toggles all hidden files on/off (relaunches the Finder, as your "killall Finder" terminal command does), and the other gives me a browse window (the "open file..." browse window) and lets me browse all hidden files, then choose one to open. Very useful.
