For a Mac you need to:
1. Open Terminal -> enter the following: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE -> hit enter and then type ->killall Finder -> hit enter again.
Don't worry killall just reboots the windows so it takes effect.
2. Go into your Kobo eReader folder (it shows up as a drive) -> you'll see a files called .adobe-digitals-editions faded out in the folder now -> move it to the recycle bin and delete it.
3. Unplugged you Kobo and then reconnect to ADE and reauthorize. This should set you back up and running.
4. Don't forget to hide those files again. In Terminal enter the following -> zdefaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE -> hit enter and type -> killall Finder -> hit enter again.
Thanks for the info!

Actually, if you prefer the GUI, you don't need to use the terminal at all. Finder has a really handy built in way to show hidden files. In this case, using the terminal is even more work.
From the finder,
- Hit the "Go" menu from the menubar
- Down the bottom, hit "Go to folder..."
- Type in the path you want to go to. In this case, that's "/Volumes/KOBOeReader/.adobe-digitals-editions"
- Hit "Go", and voila, the hidden folder opens.
No need to hide files again afterwards.
Another way is to use a script that you put in a handy place (I have it in my Finder window toolbars). I actually have two,
one that toggles all hidden files on/off (relaunches the Finder, as your "killall Finder" terminal command does), and
the other gives me a browse window (the "open file..." browse window) and lets me browse all hidden files, then choose one to open. Very useful.
