Xenophon, It sounds like you've been reading the Ebsco/NetLibrary ebooks from Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, but they do also have OverDrive books that can be read on an e-reader. Here's a link to CLP's ebooks page. OverDrive is at the top of the list.

I've found the wait lists are often shorter than at the Free Library of Philadelphia, probably because they're not as liberal about issuing library cards to out-of-towners.
