To assure good adhesion on the case, I shaved the "fur" from the area using a single-edged razor blade.
Works like a champ.

The only reason that I prefer the 3M product is because it is very easy to remove (should you wish to sell your device), but still holds well.
Other than that ... velcro is a great product.
