I can code ePub so the embedded fonts will display no problem. I can preview it on my desktop, laptop, iPad and iPhone. But unless I have an eInk screen, I have no idea how the fonts will actually look. It's not the same without the actually Reader in hand to see how things look. I can even simulate the coloring of eInk on an LCD screen. But the fonts won't display the same. There's no way to know if the fonts will look good or not on eInk without the eInk Reader.

This is not a matter of HOW to code. It's a matter of how the embedded fonts look after the coding is done. A lot of publishers try to simulate the look of the pBook and some of the fonts used for the pBook do not display well on eInk.

In the latest Star Trek eBook I recently purchased, the main body font embedded is Minion Pro. That didn't work well on eInk. I was able to replace the regular and italic versions with the medium versions and then it was good enough. It's things like fonts that do not look good with eInk that can cause readability issues for some.
