OK, clearly I'm not expressing myself very well here.

Nobody else sees anything wrong with expecting someone to buy hardware as the first step in learning how to use embedded fonts in an ePub with Sigil? It's just all me? 'Cause that's what my complaint is. The OP didn't ask how to optimize embedded fonts for eInk devices. He asked HOW to use embedded fonts in select places in an ePub. Jon's suggestion to him was essentially "first buy a Sony eInk non-backlit reader."

Before you really get into this, I suggest you buy a Sony Reader RS-T2. It has no front light and supports ePub via ADE and it a very good choice to test your embedded fonts. An LCD screen based tablet is almost worthless to test embedded fonts with.
