I would say personally that what you have there is not a microUSB cable, since the standard defines how the cable should be wired.
With the older miniUSB cables it was quite common to have cables that wouldn't fit certain devices, due to the physical size of the plug-surround not permitting them to plug in the available space. I've not encountered that problem with microUSB.
