Books like Warren Ellis' "Gun Machine"

I recently bought Warren Ellis' <i>Gun Machine<i> and my coworker and I both really enjoyed it. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a similar type of novel.

Basically, it's a crime/mystery fiction novel, where the main character has to get into the mind of a criminal in order to hunt him down. It's psychological in nature, but it still has a lot of action to give the reader that instant gratification that catches the reader's attention. But whenever I search for that sort of genre I get a lot of older/less modern titles.

Anyway, here's a link to a synopsis: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14739231-gun-machine

Any recommendations are much appreciated.
