ADE is known for being very, very finicky in ways that make it break a lot. In short, it's buggy and poorly written, and a first class pain in the ass to fix when that happens.
On the other hand, you'd think that B&N would be as aware of this as anyone, and work real hard to avoid breaking it with updates.
