As fun as it is to navigate in miniature mode, clicking on the calibre button in the taskbar should do the trick.
EDIT: Read the first page of the thread and did a bit of experimentation.
Custom columns deleted: no effect
Changing interface style: no effect
Changing icon size: no effect
Closing calibre when maximized on the screen: no effect
Closing calibre when snapped to the side: problem is gone
