Benito Pérez Galdós (1843-1920) is considered one of the greatest Spanish novelists. He is best known for his novels depicting the Spanish society of his time, and for the series of historical novels on the Spanish 19th century, "Episodios Nacionales".
"Doña Perfecta" ("Perfecta" is a given name, though the side meaning of "perfect" is intended) tells the story of Pepe Rey, a young man from the city that arrives to the smaller town of Orbajosa to marry his cousin, and how his more modern views clash with the traditional thought of the local society.
