I've seen someone report this on this forum before. Unfortunately I can't remember what the rest of the thread was (whether it had a solution or not). You might find the thread by searching the forum. I'll add the link if I find it later.
It's not a limitation of eInk. I've never seen it on my Kobo Touch and I only very rarely come across just a few fainter words on my Glo. Have you tried using a different font?
