It ought to have been a Multimedia-Multilanguage Knowledge retrieval engine.
But when it's been seen as a competitor to giant Internet corporations, it's been taken down by politicians, under the cloak of french nationalism (some called it a "french search engine"), german disagreement about technology and generic fund shortage.
