For a couple of years now, my now-hubby had been telling me that I should really get an e-book reader and I had scoffed the whole idea...and then we got married in Mexico in April...and I brought 8 books with me to enjoy onthe beach (well, some were travel guides and phrasebooks...but 8 books none the less)
Besides the sheer amount of space those pBooks took up in our luggage, we ended up paying hefty overage fees to get them to and from our destination. Because it is impossible to separate me from my books and I have a 3-5 book a week reading habit..I needed to start figuring out another way.
Shortly after our return, I first heard about the Kindle. The concept immediately struck me as the way that ebook readers would start to move reading into the future. I loved the idea of wireless connectivity - downloading books as soon as I wanted them and carrying hundreds in my pocket at a time. It was just the thing to end my travelling with large, heavy suitcases.
So, I began to research. Devasted that the Kindle wasn't available in Canada yet, I decided that I would look for a reader that was and came up with the Sony. I stopped by a Sony Style store to look at their floor model and play a bit. The screen was so amazing and the device felt so right in my hands that I knew I had to have one. I placed my order that night.
Now, I can't see myself reading my fiction any other way. In 2 months, I have read close to 30 books - from freebies at gutenberg to best sellers bought through Sony and BooksonBoard. I stillhave a full room in my house dedicated to pBooks, but most of them are non-fiction now.
I am also working towardsw my dgree and have been digitizing course materials so I can carry them with me. I think my reader has already paid for itself and I look forward to the future of ebooks.
