For epubs, Kobo uses ADE to read books with Adobe DRM. But, I think B&N a different style of Adobe DRM. I am fairly sure that Kobo don't support this.

Yes to both. You create new shelves from the shelf list. You can then add books to the shelf from a list of books. You can also select a book, use "Add to shelf" and select multiple shelves from the list displayed.
