I agree. I prefer the regular iPad's form factor over the 7-inch version, and I prefer reading on the old-fashioned, 10-inch Kindle DX instead of on the typical Kindle device. That said, there are occasions when the 7-inch versions are more handy, which is why it's worth owning both types of devices.
