Apple

January brings a
solitary apple
that clings in iridescence
to a lonely upper branch.

A desiccated beauty
And why only one?
Squirrels have not touched it
birds have left it be

Poison, profound or pious
I may never know
I’m reconciled to beauty alone
for only crows know truth
