That was bugging me too. Alex always says/acts as if he's the only one with the keys, meanwhile everything is always wide open and many people (the murderer, to begin with) walk in an out (the house, the library)
I think I'll trust my instinct, even though it may not be consistent with all the details provided. But most of them are here to trap us, aren't they?
