To answer the question. Firstly, I never access the Kindle store on the Kindle - only via the web browser on either my PC or my iPhone. It's just too painful to use on an eInk Kindle!

You're right - random browsing is not easy; there are just too many books in the store. I generally do a more directed search, searching for either an author or a publisher. (Eg, I'm a science fiction fan, so I use searches like "Gateway science fiction" to find all the books published by Gateway). I also rely a lot of recommendations, from the "Reading Recommendations" forum here at MR, or on deals in the "Deals and Resources" forum.
