I've used this setup for a couple years. Most of the time it works great. But the MiFi device is like any cell phone, susceptible to reception in your area. If there's good tower/signal coverage in your area, it's a great combo. But in an area with weak cell signal, it's an exercise in frustration.
I find 3G speeds acceptable for the occasional times I'm using my Kindle Fire away from home. But I also upgraded to 4G when it became available just because I could.
I would not personally find this an acceptable alternative to true high speed cable connection + WiFi in my house. But for occasional use while travelling, etc., it's a great, easy to use combo.
